“No one should be surprised that Beijing is emphasising the island remains ‘core of its core interests’ as it has been for more than half a century,” said Lyle Goldstein, Asia programme director at Brown University.
Even as China underlines Washington’s role in stability, Beijing also plays a part in reducing tensions, added Goldstein and other analysts, citing China’s numerous military exercises in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea.
