China eyes Russian submarine rescue expertise in Yellow Sea naval drills

Lyle Goldstein, director of Asia engagement at Defence Priorities, a Washington-based think tank, described the China-Russia naval drill as “relatively small” with submarine rescue as a focal point and showing “a measure of restraint”, he wrote on social media on Wednesday.

Goldstein also contrasted the exercise with the much bigger United States-led Rim of the Pacific (Rimpac) exercise under way around Hawaii.
