Erdogan flexes diplomatic muscles over Sweden

Foreign policy is in many ways about leverage. The more leverage a country has, the more likely it will be able to cajole or coerce another into doing what it wants. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has nearly perfected the leverage game with respect to Sweden, whose prime minister is now trying to assure the Turkish state that it takes the threat of terrorism in all its forms with the utmost seriousness (“Swedish PM: We have stepped up terrorism fight as part of our Nato bid,” Opinion, May 30).
