Lyle Goldstein, of Brown University’s Watson Institute, said there was “clear evidence” that China had “studied Mulberries and other facets of Normandy with considerable care”.

“Such numbers are well within Chinese capabilities given their huge shipbuilding capacity,” Prof Goldstein noted.
