Proposed ‘gang suppression force’ for Haiti to be larger, more lethal, U.S. says

“Any mission, whether it’s peacekeeping or traditional combat, needs a lot of support from people who aren’t themselves doing the fighting or the policing,” said Ben Friedman, a policy defense analyst and policy director at Defense Priorities, a think tank. “You hear the ratio of three to one for modern combat operations, maybe even higher these days. So somewhere there’s got to be a bureaucracy that provides logistics and intelligence support for the force….5,000 guys need to be supported by another large engine of bureaucrats.”
