Jennifer Kavanagh, a senior fellow and director of military analysis at the D.C.-based think tank Defense Priorities, said that this daily cost would rise “during a conflict or contingency situation” to as high as $12 million. According to Navy estimates from Friday, the Lincoln has spent 200 of its 269 days at sea “in a combat zone,” and its crew have completed over 10,000 sorties—an operational deployment or mission where troops or vehicles leave their defensive position—during this time.
