Dan Grazier

Senior Fellow and Director National Security Reform

Dan Grazier is a senior fellow and director of the National Security Reform Program at the Stimson Center.

Prior to joining the Stimson Center, Grazier served as the Senior Defense Policy Fellow at the Project On Government Oversight from 2015 to 2024. In his role, he leads of team of scholars who challenge the policies of the national security establishment. Their work questions the narratives and policies at the root causes of runaway US defense spending and military ineffectiveness. His own work focuses on military doctrine, organization, and technology.

Grazier is the author of numerous reports and op-eds, including “China Threat Inflation and America’s Nonsensical Plans,” “A Rational China-Oriented Military Strategy,” “Afghanistan Proved Eisenhower Correct,” and “The F-35 and Other Legacies of Failure.”

His work has appeared in major publications including Defense One, Breaking Defense, Marine Corps Gazette, Fires Bulletin, Task & Purpose, The Hill, and Responsible Statecraft. He is a frequent guest on television, radio, various podcasts, and is often quoted in print and online publications.

He won the Military Reporters & Editor’s award for best commentary in 2023 for his work advocating for a robust close air support capability in the US military. He is a veteran Marine Corps officer and served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
