LTE: Attacks on Iran slow nuclear programme yet solve nothing

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s commentary (July 9) confirms what many of us who opposed the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Tehran’s nuclear programme long believed: the short-term benefits of using military force fall short of the long-term costs.

There’s no question that U.S. and Israeli air attacks have dealt Iran’s nuclear infrastructure a blow. While the battle damage assessment is ongoing—the whereabouts of Iran’s stockpile of 60 per cent enriched uranium is unaccounted for—even Iranian officials acknowledge the programme has been set back.
