Trump’s ‘G2’ revival sparks anxiety in Washington and Asia

Jennifer Kavanagh, director of military analysis at Defense Priorities, a think tank here that advocates a foreign policy of restraint, said Trump’s G2 statements reflect a growing recognition by the administration that trying to maintain U.S. dominance in Asia is no longer sustainable.

“The time for a ‘pivot to Asia’ has passed,” she said. “Instead, the administration seems to have shifted its focus from containing Chinese power to maintaining a balance of power in Asia.”
