Iran warns it will block oil from Strait of Hormuz until U.S. strikes end
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently said during a news briefing that this Tuesday would be the most intense day yet of U.S. strikes inside Iran. This comes despite President Donald Trump saying on Monday that the “excursion” in Iran will be “short-term” and laid out plans to implement oil-related sanctions to alleviate price hikes. Rosemary Kelanic, director of the Middle East Program at Defense Priorities, is speaking with LiveNOW’s Andy Mac and discusses the potential military capabilities the United States could still use against Iran.
When asked at the White House today, Press secretary Karoline Leavitt didn’t directly answer questions about President Trump’s reaction to the Tomahawk cruise missile that was reportedly used to strike a girls school in Iran, killing 165 people. “We are a nation that does not target civilians,” said Republican Sen. Mike Rounds, who sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee. House Speaker Mike Johnson has reportedly said ongoing military operations in Iran are “by design limited in scope and mission.”
